New To Diving

So you’ve qualified as a scuba diver and are ready to invest in your own equipment. Before you do you should ask yourself two questions:-

Where am I going to dive?

Exposure Suits

This will help you decide what sort of exposure suit to buy e.g. a wetsuit, a semi-dry or a dry suit. If you intend to dive in the UK you will need to think about the temperature of the water here at home and to keep diving fun by being warm you should seriously compare the benefits of a semi-dry suit to a dry suit. If you are lucky enough to go to warmer water you need to think about what thickness and style of wet suit you should use

Regulators

It may seem obvious but you’ll need to breathe underwater so a vitally important piece of equipment is your regulator. For year round diving in the UK you should have a regulator package that stands up to cold water. Many of our customers want to do the Silfra dive in Iceland (definitely a drysuit dive) so cold water performance is a must.

BCDs

Then there is your BCD (buoyancy control device) also known as a stab jacket. If you are going to take it with you on your travels you need to think about the weight and the room it takes up in your luggage as well as the normal things like whether to have integrated weights and how many D-rings and pockets.

What sort of things do I want to do when I dive?

Dive Computers

One of your biggest decisions will be which dive computer to buy. Are you mostly interested in seeing the beautiful coral and fish life that abounds throughout the seas of the world? Are you fascinated by wrecks and the history of how they got to the bottom? Is going deep your thing?

There are a vast range of dive computers from the recreational diver’s computer that gives all the information needed to ensure that a diver stays within limits to computers that allow a diver to use different gases on the same dive and perform all the backup functions that go with it.

Dive computers range from less than £200 to well over £1,000 so let us help you pick the right one

Cameras

Many of our students are keen photographers who have been inspired to start diving so they can experience and capture the images they have seen on The Blue Planet, Wreck Detectives and other popular programmes. If this is you then we can advise you on the myriad of different camera equipment packages needed for underwater photography and videography from a simple underwater camera to a complete kit.

Even if you’re not a budding David Bailey once you have a few dives under your belt you’ll find yourself wanting to show and share with your friends what you’ve seen in this new world you have discovered.

Equipment

If you want to explore wrecks you should get the right training first (for details of the wreck diver course click here) but then you will need specific equipment like reels, torches, knives, diver tools and Surface Marker Buoys to name but a few.

You’ll have realised that buying the right equipment takes a little bit of thought so let our experienced Dive Team help you make the right decision. Our advice is free and when you have made your choices we will give you our best price on your equipment so what have you got to lose? Good advice and the best price!
